Industrial Park UpdateThe sellout of the Hammond Industrial Park property during the fourth quarter of 2006, laid the ground work for a successful year of economic accomplishments in 2007 for both the Hammond Industrial Development Board and the Hammond Area Economic & Industrial Development District. There are currently 14 companies located in the Hammond Industrial Park located on Conrad Anderson Road, just north of the Hammond Northshore Regional Airport. Collectively these companies have created over 120 jobs in a wide range if business. Industries include everything from warehousing for Party Universe and Tombstone Pizza, to construction industry companies such as Gallo Mechanical and Rocker Electric, to the expansions of Lawson Bone’t and Premiere Fence.
“We are pleased to have such a diversity of business in the industrial park. This allows both skilled and semi-skilled workers the ability to work closer to home.” states Pat Tobler, Board President. “It has always been the primary goal of our board to create jobs in the greater Hammond area. We have worked hard to achieve this goal.”
While construction was underway in the industrial park, the Hammond Area Economic & Industrial Development District was completing roadwork in the new Hammond Regional Commerce Center, located on Airport Road at I-12. This past fall, the first parcel was sold to JBS Hammond, LLC, for the purposes of constructing an office complex to house their current employees and have room for future expansion. Also, a contract has been approved and signed for a second tenant, Jim Carey Distribution, to be re-located on a ten-acre tract. The District hopes to announce in the near future other pending contracts.
While creating jobs and business investment opportunities in the City of Hammond, community involvement and business awareness were also important goals of 2007. The Hammond Industrial Development Board partnered with the Hammond Chamber of Commerce in the “Move Up to Hammond” campaign and was a sponsor in the Hammond Chamber’s very successful Business EXPO. Both the Board and the District passed resolutions this year in full support of the City of Hammond’s Elementary Magnet School Program and the I-12 Alliance marketing and branding initiative promoting the Florida Parishes region.

CAT5 Telecom Meru Networks Pinnacle PartnerCAT5 Telecom Meru Networks Pinnacle Partner
CAT5 Telecom announced today they have achieved the highest level of recognition as a business partner for Meru Networks, the leader in standards-based workplace mobility infrastructure for wireless voice (VoIP), data and video. As a Pinnacle Partner, CAT5 Telecom is required to employ four Meru Networks certified members. In addition, Pinnacle Partners must achieve an industry certification from CWNP for Certified Wireless Network Administrator (CWNA) or Cisco Wireless LAN or Advanced Wireless LAN. Pinnacle Partners also have advanced wireless VoIP demonstration capabilities and maintain a team of highly qualified engineers for advanced implementations.
Mark Gray, President at CAT5 Telecom, said, "Where competitor’s wireless networks often have to increase the density of access points and undergo other contortions to support voice, Meru technology was designed from the ground up with voice, video and data in mind. Enterprises that start out deploying our networks for data use can easily add robust voice capability with no architecture changes."
Meru's unique Air Traffic Control™ architecture enables toll-quality voice on the wireless LAN, providing assured service quality and traffic classification in converged voice, video and data networks. Architected to handle large-scale enterprise networks, the system is used in one of the world's largest VoWLAN deployments, Osaka Gas of Japan, which uses more than 6,000 dual-mode cellular-Wi-Fi phones. Meru technology supports a wide variety of voice over Wi-Fi client devices, including Vocera, Avaya, Polycom/Spectralink, Ascom, Cisco and Nokia phones.
Unlike legacy enterprise wireless networks, which use a "micro cell" approach, Meru's virtual cell architecture works by selecting a single channel for use by all access points enterprise-wide, and layering additional channels as more capacity is required. This approach eliminates the costly channel planning and co-channel interference that plague legacy networks. Meru technology also features call admission control, which prevents quality-degrading call overloads by moving new calls to alternate virtual cells; and location- and application-aware quality of service, which allows assignment of priorities to voice traffic according to enterprise policy.
